摘要

In this article, Dr. Richard Vedan, a Secwepmec, lodge keeper, and medical social worker converses with Dr. Carolyn Kenny about critical elements of medical ethnomusicology as seen and experienced through an Indigenous context.  Dilemmas of individualism versus collectivism and isolation versus connectivity underlie the entire conversation.  Relevant themes in the traditional use of music in Indigenous healing are discussed.

 

Author Biography

Carolyn B Kenny, Indigenous Education Institute of Canada, University of British Columbia

Dr. Kenny is a Professor Emerita from Antioch University and currently serves as a Visiting Scholar in the Indigenous Education Institute of Canada at the University of British Columbia.  She is a founding co-editor of Voices:  A World Forum for Music Therapy (with Brynjulf Stige) and has published and presented Internationally in both Music Therapy and Indigenous Studies.  She lives in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
