Voices invites applications for Article Editors
Voices is an open access, online music therapy forum that was created in 2001 to centralise the values of inclusion and diversity in a music therapy journal, particularly in relation to culture and social justice. The editorial team is committed to developing an egalitarian and interdisciplinary forum so that multiple voices can be heard, and although we value critical thinking and awareness, a range of articles are published from diverse perspectives.
The Voices editorial team currently comprises two lead editors, four copyeditors, 14 article editors, and a communications editor. There are also two wiki editors and abstract translators of six languages. All of these people offer their time on a voluntary basis. Our team is supported by a production editor from NORCE Norwegian Research Centre and a layout editor from the University of Bergen who supports open access publishing of the journal.
We publish three editions a year, with between 5 and 20 articles in each across a range of genres including research, position papers, reports, case stories, reviews, reflections on practice, interviews and more. The refereed journal articles are reviewed using a doubly anonymous peer review system, with reviewers’ names made transparent when an article is accepted for publication. We publish a special issue approximately once per year, most recently: Language and Power in Music Therapy, Multidisciplinary Issue on Black Aesthetics and the Arts Therapies, and Queering Music Therapy.
We are expanding our team and are inviting applications for Article Editors who support our practices of transparent publishing and dialogic peer review.
Article Editors serve as primary contact with authors and play a central role in assuring that both manuscripts and the process of peer review reflect values of Voices. They liaise between authors and peer reviewers to promote a dialogic process of peer review, following manuscripts from assignment at submission through to copyediting. Article editors are key voices in making editorial decisions about manuscripts and in the development of the journal. Like all of our editorial team, we aim that our article editors represent a mangfold of cultural contexts, languages, orientations and backgrounds that can engage a broad spectrum of authors.
To apply, please send a CV and a statement of your motivation, demonstrating your connection to our vision and values and stating what you can bring to the role. Successful applicants will need to demonstrate experience as author and/or reviewer of refereed publications. Experience as editor is an advantage, but not a requirement. When considering applicants, we will give prioritization to people from under-represented groups. We welcome applications until September 29, 2023.
