Helen L. Bonny

Helen Lindquist Bonny, PhD, RMT/CMT (1921-2010) received degrees from Oberlin College Conservatory (BM violin performance 1943), the University of Kansas (music therapy equivalency 1964, MME 1968), and Union Institute and College in Cincinnati, Ohio (PhD 1976).   She developed and disseminated the Bonny Method and its adaptations through her Institute for Consciousness and Music in Baltimore, MD (1972-1979) and at the Bonny Foundation for Music-centered Therapies in Salina, Kansas (1988-1998).  In addition she was  music therapy director at Catholic University (1975-1979).   She is recognized worldwide for developing Guided Imagery and Music - now called the Bonny Method - a method that utilizes evocative classical music for therapeutic and spiritual transformation. Her principal contributions to music therapy theory, research, and practice are collected in Music and Consciousness: The Evolution of Guided Imagery and Music (Edited by Lisa Summer, 2002; Barcelona Publishers).
