Abstract

This article discusses Helen Bonny’s role as a musician, focusing on her early musical history, her choice of the violin, her musical training, her expression as a musician over the years, the quality of her playing, and the way that playing music was foundational to her life and work.   The information in the article is based on written sources that describe her life as a musician, including an autobiographical statement written by Helen herself, as well as interviews and personal communications with musicians who have had the privilege of playing music with her.

Diane Ritchey Vaux, Association for Music & Imagery

Diane Ritchey Vaux, Ph.D., FAMI, was a psychologist in private practice for many years in the Pittsburgh PA area, providing psychotherapy and Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music sessions.    In 2001 she retired to Port Townsend, WA, where she now spends most of her time as an active musician playing cello and piano and provides Bonny Method sessions in a small private practice.   She took training in The Bonny Method at The Bonny Foundation with Helen as her mentor and trainer.  Since that time their collegial relationship included playing music together.
