Resumen

Even as a Music Therapist with some knowledge and experience with hospice, I was yet unprepared for the intimate passing of one of my own loved ones. This is the story of how I used music to help relieve my father’s and my own anxieties surrounding his transition, and the challenges and successes that I found in offering that music to him.

Jacob Beck

H. Jacob Beck, MT-BC, holds a Certificate of Music Therapy from Marylhurst University, and has been practicing as a Music Therapist in Portland, OR, and Orlando, FL since January 2009. He has worked with a variety of populations including children with autism; well elderly; elders with dementia; people with HIV/AIDS; and adolescents and adults with developmental disabilities. He will be relocating this year to rural Wisconsin, working as a Music Therapist in hospice care and beginning the journey of owning a private Music Therapy practice. He is a musician with a passionate interest in songwriting and home recording, and is an amateur rock and roll historian/devoted appreciator.
