Biography

Interested in music from an early age, Liz Coombes learned oboe and piano in her home town of Cardiff, Wales. She subsequently studied at Royal Holloway College, London University where she obtained a BMus. Following this, she worked for Community Music Wales as a workshop leader and then a trainer. Her experience in working with children and adults with emotional and learning difficulties prompted her to train as a music therapist at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Liz’s clinical work is focussed on children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. She works in an in-patient facility in S Wales for the child and adolescent mental health services. She is also the programme leader for the MA in Music Therapy at the University of Wales, Newport. She is at present undertaking research in music therapy skillsharing in Palestine with Music as Therapy International.
