Through the Sound

A glow in the aftermath of trauma
A whisper in a moment of peace
Rilke exalts "music, you growing space"
That reaches within us
To the deepest part

And grows into the world
As the other side of air.

Raven sings the first humans
Into existence
When they prefer to hide
In the sand beneath a clam shell
On the beach
HiyaHoHey! Hiya, Hi!

Music is the common sense
Attempting to unite hearts and minds
Because it is the beating of hearts
Beneath and above Earth
Of senses and common sense
Beyond categories of representation.
Give me a Taiko drum.

Twisting my mind into knots of knowing
Epistemic transgressions rule
Yet music stands above, beyond, and beneath
Speaking words that I can barely imagine
Through birds in rainforests
Living in a canopy of hope
For mere humankind.

Do you hear the sound of the wind
Carrying our thoughts through space?

Can you locate the sound of a baby crying
In the region of your heart?
Can we situate ourselves in freedom
Through the sound?

Great Northern ice fields do not want
To melt into the sea to loose their collective grandeur
Reminding us of what the old man said:
"Remember the ice is melting,
It's time to pray"
Can we hear the tears of seven generations hence?
Collect ourselves into the sound.
Project ourselves onto the music
A living thing that only lives
Through the energy of life itself
Propelling us into vitality
Gentle, vast, quiet cacophony
Beneath and above the surface
Of all that is and will be.

I find myself in you
We reveal ourselves
To one another

Through the sound.
