The community music therapy program was established to aid in the recovery of trauma for individuals who were affected by the Black Saturday fire in Australia. The music therapists had been asked by a teacher at the school if music therapy would be helpful for the children and both of the music therapists, McFerren and Teggelove, agreed and went to the school the first day of their third term, 6 months after the Black Saturday fires.

In this article, Miki Akahane talks about her project of creating songs with individuals in a house-like setting. This article brings to mind three important aspects—a) the value of process over product, b) the importance of including people with disabilities, c) the incorporation of song into daily life. I feel that these aspects of her project are very important for music therapists and students such as myself to experience and incorporate into our work because they are at the core of music therapy.

I have been interested in the role of music therapy with treatment of eating disorders for several years, so I was glad to find this article on music therapy with adolescents suffering with anorexia nervosa. The whole of this article was very interesting to me but the point that piqued my interest the most was the methods of music therapy used to help treat persons with eating disorders. Also, the lack of research in the treatment of eating disorders was something I was surprised to find as I began reading this article.

Music Therapy in Rehabilitation: A Perspective from the UK

I read Jeanette Tamplin's paper about the development of the programme in which she is involved with interest. Whilst Music Therapy (MT) in the UK is well developed in the area of mental health, with people with learning difficulties and with children with communication disorders, rehabilitation has been an area where the profession is still struggling to make its mark in the UK. I am responding to the Australian experience with an overview of MT in rehabilitation in the UK.
