In the fall 2003 I had the opportunity to visit Nairobi Kenya for two and a half weeks with a music group that I was touring with. During our two weeks there, we traveled around the city of Nairobi, experiencing the sights and sounds of Kenya. We were hosted by a church with a fairly large congregation whose members accompanied and guided us through the city and surrounding areas. We went into Kibera, the largest slum in Nairobi and the second largest slum in Africa. We also visited a village of the Maasai tribe.

Congratulations and Comments

Dear members of the Voices forums,
First, let me congratulate you on 10 yrs of service to the music therapy community! I am constantly checking in, finding out what's new and exciting and look forward the challenging and diverse expressions of music therapy. I also admire the efforts that you had made, and are making, to represent various philosophies of practice and culturally specific articles.
With regards to the discussions, I would "second" the notion that more individuals would contribute responses.

Since 2003 when I took care of my paternal grandmother as she was dying of Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, hospice care and working with the dying have been of particular interest to me. I wonder how we may take the practice of music therapy a step further and utilize it to assist more particularly with the patient's dying processes.
